Richard Grove's Paddle Log

Flint River Clearing 2009 Part I

Gray Heron nesting sites, flood plain marsh mazes and cooler temp’s make for a good day on the water, clearing flood debris and other paddling obstructions!

Chainsaw stuck in the log

Richard, Ken Stark and Chris Chaperon spent the day clearing deadfalls and overhang along a 4 mile section of the Flint River in Fayette County, Georgia.  They started out at the McDonough Rd Bridge and took out at the North Bridge Rd.

For Richard, this was his first time back on the Flint since his journey from Hartsfield-Jackson Int’l Airport (ATL) to Lake Seminole, FL.

The day started early, but we weren’t on the water until 9:30am.  Pre-paddle breakfast meetings are important, besides, it was a little chilly!  It is hard to believe that we paddled less than 5 miles, but didn’t haul our gear out of the river until 7:30pm.  We were cold and exhausted!  More on these challenging tasks later…

I know that Richard has some pictures that I need to put up for him…
