AL: Cahaba River-X 2009

Sorry Folks!  We’ve had to cancel this event for this year. Even though the event is canceled, we’ll leave the information on the site for you to reference…

We will do this trip in the future so you have some time to make plans with friends.

Save the date: May 30 - June 5, 2009.  It looks like Richard is cranking out another paddling project.  This time, it’s with our neighbors in Alabama, specifically those along the Cahaba River.

• WHO: 30 kayak paddlers
• WHAT: 1 week, 123 mile paddle, some primitive riverbank camping.
• WHERE: Alabama, Cahaba River (Central Standard Time)
  
• WHEN: May 30 - June 5, 2009
• PRICE: $300 by mail, $310 online.

It looks like this will be a 123 Mile, one-week paddle for Richard and friends with shuttles and some meals provided.

This trip is restricted to 30 kayaks at least 14’ in length (sorry, no canoes either). Richard likes to keep the group numbers in check to prevent the circus/evacuation shelter vibe from setting in…

The trip starts at Booth’s Ford in Boothton, AL (NE of Birmingham) and ends at the site of the old Alabama Capital, Cahaba at the confluence of the Cahaba and  Alabama Rivers (Cahaba River Park). Please remember the timezone differences (Eastern/Central). All times are in “event time” which is Central Standard Time!

The timing of the trip coincides with the blooming of the endagered Cahaba Lily (Hymenocallis coronaria) which various organizations celebrate. An overview of this feature of the trip is discussed in AL: Cahaba River-X .

This project is in collaboration with the Alabama Bureau of Tourism. Alabama Outdoor magazine will be covering the event in print and on their TV show.

I’ll post more information as it comes my way.  Feel free to discuss this event in the forums, the question you ask may help others… We’ve made the Google Earth and GPS map files available to the community on Richard’s EveryTrail account.  We encourage you to add your trips to share with the world.

The ticket price is $300 by check ($310 by credit card/PayPal).  A $10 online processing surcharge is included in the ‘Pay By Credit Card’ ticket price. There is no surcharge for mailing a check payable to “Richard Grove” ($300).

Please mail your check at least one week before the event or you will have to purchase an online ticket via credit card (use the button below)…

This is going to be popular event so sign up ASAP! The online ticket sales service does not reflect the actual number of tickets sold by phone/email/checks so contact Richard directly with any questions.
